-KYUSHU

The Kyushu region, just off the southern tip of Japan’s main island of Honshu, is the birthplace of the 1868 Meiji Restoration that ended the rule of Japan’s shoguns. It is also the cradle of Japan’s industrial revolution and modern Japanese culture. But Kyushu is equally famous for its majestic natural beauty and its great abundance and variety of hot springs. With multiple regional airports, Kyushu is easily accessed from Tokyo and Osaka. Once there, the best way to get around is via the Kyushu Shinkansen line or special train services that link popular tourist destinations. JTBGMT has a wide variety of itineraries and accommodations—both traditional and modern—to choose from, covering not only Hakata, Nagasaki, and other major cities, but also out-of-the-way scenic destinations such as Takachiho Gorge, Mt. Aso, Sakurajima, Yakushima, and popular hot spring resorts like Beppu, Yufuin, and Kurokawa.
