In the old times, water transportation flourished on Mogamigawa River and carried local products such as rice to Kansai area. Mogamigawa River is a famous sightseeing spot for its magnificent gorge. People can appreciate different landscapes of the four seasons, especially the fresh green in June and July and the snow from December to March. Taking the boat equipped with Kotatsu (Japanese table with a built-in heater and a blanket that covers all four sides) in winter is recommended.

| Mt. Haguro, one of the three religious mountains of Dewa, is known as a sacred place in the Tohoku region where mountain priests used to train and practice. Omotesando (front approach) is 1.7 km with 2,446 stone steps and a line of cedar trees 350 to 500 years old on both sides. |
Mt. Haguro was given three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan for its great scenery, attracting many tourists. Located in the middle of the cedar trees is the five-storied pagoda, a national treasure. This area is also a recommended hiking tour.
