Kumano Kodo

-What is a Geopark?
"Geo" means earth and land.A geopark is a natural park containing a geological heritage of special importance, value and beauty from a scientific point of view.Geology and topography are related to the history of the earth and human life and culture. Geoparks are what we learn and enjoy as a heritage. The Global Geoparks Network (GGN) was established in 2004 with the support of UNESCO. In 2015, Global Geoparks became an official UNESCO project.

Enjoy the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trail experience and natural sceneries at Nanki Kumano Geopark.

It has been selected as a national natural monument. You can see a large rock that has been eroded by wind and rain and has many holes carved into it that look like they were eaten by insects.

The most popular sightseeing spot in this area. One of the largest rocks in Japan with a height of about 100m and a width of about 500m is a spectacular scale.

A rare waterfall with irregularly shaped rock holes of various sizes. It is also famous for fishing for sweetfish and for seeing the gobies climbing the waterfall.
