OUR WORK

Throughout our 100 year history of serving the inbound travel market JTB has supported almost every major sporting event in Japan and we are proud to continue this tradition of service.

FOOTBALL

FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2015

Details:
These club team world soccer championships are held by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Previously known as the FIFA Club World Championship, it changed to the present name in 2006. Championship teams from the 6 continents of Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, North America/Central America/Caribbean, and Oceania face off against the domestic league championship team of the host country to compete for the status of World Cup Champions.
Our Role:
As the official travel agency for events held in Japan, JTB serves the representative teams from the various continents. We arrange accommodation, transportation, and all manner of hospitality services for the visiting teams.

Nadeshiko Japan

Details:
International matches of Nadeshiko Japan, the Japan Women's National Football Team.
Our Role:
From international A matches to friendly matches, JTB supports both Nadeshiko Japan and all athletes from overseas teams in a variety of women's football events.

FIFA World Cup

2002 FIFA World Cup

Details:
The 17th FIFA World Cup was held jointly in South Korea and Japan from May 31st to June 30th 2002.
Our Role:
We provided support and hospitality services for the representatives of various member teams while in Japan.

2014 FIFA World Cup

Details:
The 20th FIFA World Cup was held in Brazil from June 12th to July 13th 2014. This was the first World Cup held in Brazil in 64 years.
Our Role:
We organized official and sponsored tours for over 300 participants that included hospitality services in Brazil.

BASEBALL

2014 MLB Japan All-Star Series

Details:
Organized by the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization, this series pitches players from the Japan men's baseball team, known as Samurai Japan, against a Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star team. The 2014 All-Star Series was held in November. 8 matches were held including send-off and friendly matches. Venues included Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Okinawa.
Our Role:
We welcomed the MLB All-Star players to Japan and provided transportation, accommodation, dining, and a variety of hospitality services.

World Baseball Classic

Details:
This top world championship for baseball is held by the WBCI and officiated by the WBSC. Japan won the first WBC held in 2006, and successfully defended the title in 2009. Since the third WBC in 2013, the series has been held once every 4 years, with the next tournament in 2017.
Our Role:
As the official travel agency for this series we welcome the athletes from various countries and provide support and hospitality services.

18U Baseball World Cup

Details:
This baseball world championship is hosted biannually by the WBSC and welcomes the top players aged 16 to 18 from various countries and regions around the world. Participants include athletes from 12 countries including the U.S.A., Cuba and South Korea. It was last held in 2015 from August 28th to September 6th in Osaka and Hyogo.
Our Role:
As the officially sanctioned travel agency for the event we welcomed the athletes from various countries and provided support services.

MARATHONS

Nagoya Women's Marathon

Details:
This event holds the Guinness World Record for the largest women's marathon. Over 20,000 female runners grace the streets of Nagoya. It ranks along with the Olympics, world championships and other international tournaments for Japan women's team competitions. The event is held on the second Sunday in March every year. The main venue Nagoya Dome also hosts booths for sports, health, beauty and live stage events at the Marathon Expo.
Our Role:
As the official travel agency for the event starting from 2016 we will provide entry registration services and tour packages for international participants, entry registration and accommodation packages for domestic participants, and various other accommodation, transportation and support services.

Nagano Marathon

Overview:
This marathon has been held in late April every year since 1999 with the goal of continuing on the excitement of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Top class runners from Japan and abroad run the same course together with local runners, promoting the excitement of the marathon experience far and wide. 20 professional athletes are invited from overseas. Together with domestic and international participants this makes for a total of 11,000 runners in the event.
Our Role:
We provide entry registration and accommodation services for general participants from overseas, as well as welcome services for the invited professional athletes.

Yokohama Women's Marathon

Overview:
The Yokohama Women's Marathon was held from 2009 to 2014 in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It continued the legacy of the Tokyo Women's Marathon, an event which was started in 1979 as the world's first women only marathon, and ended in 2008. The event also served as an Olympic trial race.
Our Role:
As the official travel agency for the event we welcomed elite athletes, managed checkpoints, arranged parties and receptions, and provided various support services.

ICE SKATING

Fantasy on Ice 2015

Held:
May to July of 2015
Locations:
Makuhari, Shizuoka, Kanazawa and Kobe
Details:
Olympic athletes and top skaters from around the world and Japan come together to perform an ice show well known for its entertaining spectacle. Shows during 2015 were held in Makuhari, Shizuoka, Kanazawa and Kobe.
Our Role:
We provided accommodation, transportation, dining and various hospitality services for the international and domestic athletes and their support staff.

THE ICE

July to August of 2015
Locations:
Sapporo, Osaka, Aichi, and Sendai
Details:
This ice show is a spectacular event rich in originality and variety which is performed by the world's top skaters every summer. Shows during 2015 were held in Sapporo, Osaka, Aichi and Sendai.
Our Role:
We provided accommodation, transportation, dining and various hospitality services for the international and domestic athletes participating in the show.

CYCLING

TOUR OF JAPAN

Details:
The Tour of Japan is an annual professional cycling road race sanctioned by the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) and held every May in Japan. It is famous as the country's only stage race that crosses more than one prefecture. In previous years 16 Japanese and foreign teams participated. 2016 will be the first time in the tour's history that the 8 Day, 8 Stage (Sakai, Kyoto, Mino, Inabe, Ida, Mt.Fuji, Izu, Tokyo) event will be held with no break days for moving between stages.
Our Role:
From 2012 to 2014 JTB provided accommodation and transportation services as the official travel agency for the event.

Cycling Shimanami 2014

Details:
Cycling Shimanami was an international cycling event held in October 2014 on the Seto Naikai Shimanami Kaido (Seto Inland Sea Shimanami Road). Over 8,000 participants from Japan and abroad joined in the race making it the largest international cycling event ever held in Japan. The Setonaikai Shimanami Kaido is a seaside road connecting Hiroshima on the island of Honshu to Ehime on the island of Shikoku. The built-in cycling road is becoming popular as a seaside cycling course not only within Japan but around the world. Cyclists can enjoy dynamic views of bridges stretching across the beautiful Seto Inland Sea and Geiyo Islands which are unique to this area. The format of this event was not a race but rather a traveling event meant for the enjoyment of the act of cycling itself. The truly diverse appeal of cycling was evident here on courses that both traverse the Shimanami Kaido and crossed the sea via a combination of ferries and cycling. Aid stations staffed by local residents added to the attraction with a chance to interact with the locals. Participants were truly able to enjoy the nature and unique atmosphere of the Seto Inland Sea.
Our Role:
JTB was responsible for inviting participants from overseas, promoting the event, and planning and marketing tour packages.

JAPAN CUP CYCLE ROAD RACE

Overview:
Held every year in October at the Shinrin Park Circuit Course in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture. This race is the highest in the 'Hors Class' category as ranked by the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) amongst one day races in Asia. As the pinnacle of Asian cycling road races it is the only domestic race which attracts top class athletes who also participate in the Tour de France. On the day before the event over 100,000 spectators and criterium assemble. The Japan Cup Cycle Road Race was established in 1992.
Our Role:
JTB managed accommodation and transportation for foreign and Japanese athletes and staff. We also arranged buses for general spectators.

TENNIS

TORAY PAN PACIFIC OPEN

Details:
Taking place in September this event is part of the WTA tour. Held at the famous Ariake Coliseum and Ariake Tennis Forest Park this event is Japan's top international women's pro tennis tournament.
Our Role:
JTB managed tournament hotel desk operations and hotel-venue shuttle bus transportation.

Davis Cup by BNP Paribas
Fed Cup by BNP Paribas

Details:
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis and is held every year by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Past Events: Japan vs the Czech Republic (March 2014)
The Fed Cup is the premier international team competition in women's tennis and is also held every year by the ITF.
Past Events: Japan vs Belarus (April 2014)
Our Role:
When held in Japan JTB manages accommodation, transportation and dinner parties for the athletes participating in these events.

BNP Paribas World Team Cup

Overview:
The BNP Paribas World Team Cup is the wheelchair tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup. It will be held at the Ariake Coliseum and Ariake Tennis Forest Park in Tokyo from May 23rd to 28th 2016. The event will be held in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation and the Japan Tennis Association. 250 athletes from 52 countries are expected to participate.
Our Role:
Reception of athletes, arrangement of special vehicles, accommodation and meals for all guests.

TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES

JTB becomes a Tokyo 2020 Official Partner for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games!

JTB has supported the Olympic and Paralympic Movements over the course of many years, and at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, the first-ever Olypic Games to be held in Japan, we were involved in the provision of services for accommodation and transportation. Since then we have continued to utilize our domestic and global networks to provide safe and secure travel services to many customers, assisting both athletes and spectators alike, most recently making a travel arrangements for the JAPAN Olympic and Paralympic Teams and providing a range of tours for supporters at the London and Sochi Games, we well as assisting in the bid activities to bring the Games to Tokyo in 2020.

OTHER SPORTS

Indiaca World Cup Japan

Details:
Indiaca is a sport similar to volleyball which uses a winged ball (Indiaca ball) hit with the hands. The 4th Indiaca World Cup was held in August 2015 in Saitama.
Teams:
30 overseas and 9 domestic teams participated in 6 categories for a qualifying round, playoff and awards ceremony.
Our Role:
JTB utilized a custom entry registration and accommodation system for international participants and also arranged sightseeing tours. Joined by 300 participants, this event was a great success!

World Karate Championships

Details:
The World Karate Championship has been held once every 4 years since 1975. Men and women of all weight classes are welcomed to this event held in Japan, the center of the martial arts world. 80,000 karate practitioners from 89 countries and regions gather to determine the best in the world.
Our Role:
JTB arranged accommodation and transportation for athletes (including 170 participants from overseas), totaling 900 team participants and staffs. We also assisted with visa applications and arrangements for the athletes.
