Tourism Research Institute of GMT
Japan's inbound tourist environment is facing a period of immense change. In order to create market intelligence, attract overseas markets, develop eco-friendly tourism, and revitalize local areas, it is important that all stakeholders, including the central and local governments, businesses, educational and research institutions, local residents and tourists themselves, work together and take an active role in forming tourism policy. The Tourism Research Institute of GMT (TRIG) assists both businesses and local communities in jointly developing sustainable tourism solutions.
The environment that surrounds tourism in Japan, which includes a wide range of factors including the explosive expansion of exchange in East Asia, how to serve tourists who visit Japan, tourism that can help realize a sustainable society, and gaining acceptance of tourism by residents or even promoting their participation, is gradually changing in character and substance into something that has never been seen before.
This environment requires new ideas for how to think about what is desired from government policies on tourism, and what is trying to be achieved. At the same time, even more care must be made to preserve local treasures.
Tourism in this era of change is looking for innovation - innovation that can bring about a new tourism that provides new value for both customers and residents.
