France's Michelin, best known for its restaurant ratings, published its first tourist guide to Japan in 2007, the "MICHELIN Voyager Pratique Japon". We'll feature some of the places which got three star and explore the hidden charms of the spots!!
Nara
Located in the Kansai Region south of Kyoto, Nara was Japan's first permanent capital
(710-784) and a city full of historic treasures. So picturesque is Nara that it is featured on Voyager Pratique Japon's cover!
There are eight temples, shrines and ruins in Nara which, together with the Primeval Forest of Kasugayama, collectively form the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara", a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Todaiji temple, one of the eight temples, is one of the most famous temples in Japan. Its Great Buddha (Daibutsu) Hall is reportedly the largest wooden building in the world.
For the coming summer, a fantastic event called "Nara Tokae" will be recommendable.
Tokae breathtakingly fills the ancient capital of Nara with countless small lights and lanterns. It's not like the bustling summer festival, but visitors can fully enjoy the fantastic summer night that suits for the noble ancient capital. Don't miss this precious occasion!!
Sunrise Tours offers courses that visit many of Nara's most famous sites. The "Nara Afternoon Course" covers Todaiji Temple, Nara Park and Kasuga Shrine. Kasuga Shrine is the most famous and beautiful Shinto Shrine in Nara. The "Nara and Kyoto 1 Day Course" covers the aforementioned sites along with highlights of Kyoto. The "Ancient Japanese History-Nara Asuka Area" tour focuses on ancient history covering sites such as the Takamatsu-zuka Wall Painting Museum and the Nara Prefecture Complex of Manyo Culture. |
