Nichinan BeachKyushu is located in the southwest of Japan and is about a two hour flight from Tokyo.
People often don't pencil in Kyushu on their Japan travel itinerary due to time constraints but those who do know that it is well worth the visit.
There are so many attractions in Kyushu that offer visitors a unique Japanese experience.
 
 
1. Yakushima, Kagoshima Prefecture: World Heritage site

Yakushima, an island in Kagoshima Prefecture, is bursting with beautiful nature. This picturesque island, which was named as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sitein 1993, is famous for its high mountains and ancient cedar forests-one Jomon cedar tree on Yakushima is about 7200 years old! Visitors can also enjoy various activities such as scuba diving, hiking and canoeing. There is a direct flight available from Kagoshima to Yakushima which takes about 30 minutes.
2. Beppu Onsen (Hot spring), Oita Prefecture: No.1 Water Output in Japan
Japan is literally an onsen (hot spring) super power with an uncountable number of onsen sites throughout the country. But Beppu onsen, located in Kyushu's Oita Prefecture, has the No.1 water output and largest number of hot spring sources in Japan. It is said that there are 11 different kinds of onsen and Beppu has 10 of them. Put simply, in Beppu you can try out most of the onsen types that exist in Japan!

3. Mt. Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture: The Largest Active Volcano in Japan
Mount Aso, located in Kumamoto Prefecture, is the largest active volcano in Japan and one of the largest in the world. The crater basin, measuring 24km in length from north to south, 18km in width from east to west and 128km in circumference, is the largest of its kind in the world. You can even see the crater up close by ropeway!

4. Mt. Inasa, Nagasaki: One of the Top Three Night Views in Japan
NagasakiRising 333m above Nagasaki, Mt. Inasa is the best spot to enjoy a panoramic view of the Nagasaki city. The view is so spectacular that it is regarded as one of the top three night views in Japan! There is a cable car that leaves from Nagasaki and takes people right to the top of Mt. Inasa. The observation platform on the top of the mountain is popular with tourists as it provides breathtaking views of Nagasaki at night.

5. Dazaifu, Fukuoka: One of the Top Three Historical Sites in Japan
Dazaifu in FukuokaDazaifu is a small town south-east of Fukuoka. It was the administrative capital of Kyushu during the Kofun (300-710) and Heian (794-1185) periods. There are so many historical spots that still exist in Dazaifu City to remind us of its history.
