Michelin 2008 Tokyo Guide Book

The Michelin Guide, a well-known guide book which evaluates and recommends restaurants by using a rating system of stars, was released in Tokyo in November. This is the first Michelin Guide launched in Asia and everyone is talking about it! It proved so popular in Japan that it sold out within the first 4 dayss of release!

The question is, how well did Tokyo actually do? Michelin 2007
Eight restaurants were awarded with three stars, 25 with two stars, and 117 with one star.Tokyo was awarded with more stars than any other city in the world, proving its reputation for offering world-class gourmet meals. According to the Michelin Guide, one star means a very good restaurant in its category, two stars means excellent cooking that is worth a detour, and three stars denote exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey.

The restaurants that were awarded three stars are:
Hamadaya (Classic Japanese)
Joel Robuchon (French)
Kanda (Japanese)
Koju (Japanese)
L'Osier (French)
Quintessence (French)
Sushi Mizutani (Sushi)
Sukiyabashi Jiro (Sushi)

The first edition of the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2008 is available in both English and Japanese. The guide focuses on Japanese cuisine; in fact, over 60% of the selected restaurants are Japanese.
