G'Day!! My name is Yo Shingu.
I am pretty new to Japan Now! as well as GMT. It has been just three month since my uni graduation in Brisbane. I have finished my secondary education and higher education in Australia.

But, I am not going to talk about Australia for the rest of this entry. My apologies. I am here for promoting Japan, so I like to tell you something about Beppu, which I have visited on last weekend.
Beppu is the name of the town in Oita prefecture on Kyushu Island. It only takes one and a half hour to fly from Tokyo to Oita. Getting to Beppu from the airport requires another 40 minutes by a bus. Beppu is reasonably small and easy to walk around. There is a tourist information center for Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese speaking people.
When you're in Beppu, don't miss out authentic experiences of Onsen (hot spring spa)!
As you may know, there are tremendous numbers of Onsen Ryokan (Japanese style inn) in towns like Beppu. In fact, in Beppu, there are attractive Onsens as sight seeing spots.
So, next day, I went to the hells, seriously.
I am not joking. Jjigoku, which means hells, are the most popular Onsens to visit in Beppu.
There are 8 popular hells in Beppu such as Umi-Jigoku (sea hell), Oniishibozu-Jigoku (shaven heads hell), Yama-Jigoku (mountain hell), Kamado-Jigoku (pot hell), Oniyama-Jigoku (devil mountain), Shiraike-Jigoku (white pond hell), Chinoike-Jigoku (blood bond hell), Tatsumaki-Jigoku (tornado hell). They are well deserved to depict images of hells.
| Three of my favourites are Umi-Jigoku, Oniishibozu-Jigoku and Chinoike-Jigoku. |

On the last day at Beppu, I have to admit that I spend much time on choosing souvenirs for my families!! You can find numorous souvenirs; Caramel Creme (cooked by hot sprint steam), Kabosu (green citrus), Shiitake mushrooms, Jidori chickens, Onsen Tamago (eggs that steamed by hot spring steam) at any souvenir shops in Beppu! |
