Before you experience Japan for yourself, it might be worth checking out the website of two brave Englishmen who are embarking on a 15 day quest to find the very heart and soul of the country.
The aptly named Japan Quest will take them from Hokkaido in Japan's north to who knows where after that!
They have tossed away their travel guides and are planning their route as they go.
 Along the way, they plan to meet local people and discover memorable places and events in some of Japan's less-traveled areas.
They might even work alongside farmers and fishermen, stay in Japanese homes, or visit secluded temples.
Their adventures and ramblings will be updated daily on The Japan Quest website. The site includes a diary, travel route, photo journal and even video!
