Ask anyone around the world to name a type of Japanese food, and more often than not, the answer will be sushi. While sushi can be enjoyed just about anywhere these days, enjoying a meal of authentic sushi is one of the things you absolutely must do while visiting Japan. No matter how much you enjoy sushi, you’ll never be able to take it home with you. What you can do, however, is to bring back the skills to make sushi.

Tsukiji Kiyomura, a company that owns the Sushizanmai with 26 locations in Tokyo, offers sushi-making classes.

For sushi fans, the 3-hour class might be the best place to start. A master chef will take you through all the steps, from making vinegared rice to cuttingaji (mackerel) intofillets and even how form the rice with your hands. You'll also receive recipes for each season so you can try out your new skills at home. About 2,000 people have attended the classes so far, including many non-Japanese. Of course, after the lesson is over, you get to enjoy your creations!
