If you are tired of looking for a dining spot in Tokyo that is both special and unique, look no further! Dinner on a yakatabune(old-fashioned houseboat) might be just the thing. A yakatabune is a modified boat that contains traditional tatami(straw mats) rooms; perfect for holding parties. It is thought that yakatabune originated in the Heian period (794 - 1185) but they became more popular during the Edo period (1603-1867), especially amongst the Daimyo (feudal lords).

The boats are popular amongst Japanese but more and more foreigners have started to take advantage of the boatfs charms. The uniqueness of the experience speaks for itself but you can enjoy eating delicious tempura, sing karaoke, and most importantly, a famous sendo (waterman) will welcome guests in English!

One such famous English-speaking sendo is Ms.Mano from the renowned Harumiya yakatabune. Ms.Mano not only welcomes guests in English, abut she also offers a detailed explanation of the yakatabune's facilities and historical background. Harumiya also serves vegetarian meals-all part of its efforts to make foreign guests feel as comfortable as possible.

Harumiya can cater for large groups up to 477 people and even small groups of two. Harumiya uses two courses on the Tokyo waterfront: the Odaiba course and the Maihama course. Come along and make your night on the Tokyo waterfront a night to remember with a special dinner on a yakatabune!
