| First performed about 600 years ago, Noh is one of Japan's oldest traditional forms of theater. Combining elements of dance, acting, music and poetry, Noh is as synonymous with Japanese theater as Kabuki and has even been designated as an intangible world cultural asset.
Despite its esteemed position, Noh remains an art that, even for the Japanese, is thought to be inaccessible. Many people don't even know where they can enjoy a performance.
Though the National Noh Theatre is among the most widely known venues in Tokyo, you can also find a Noh theatre in the least expected spot: inside the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in Shibuya, one of Tokyo's most contemporary hot spots.
One of the restaurants in the hotel, Kanetanaka, is connected to the Noh theatre.
The respected Japanese restaurant Kanetakana was established in the Taisho Era (1912-1926), and many celebrities and visitors from abroad have enjoyed its delicious dishes served in the proper Japanese style.
