Kendo

Kendo is a sport based on the traditions of sword fighting in which the swords have been traded for bamboo staffs. It was formally organized into a sport in 1919.  More than a sport, though, it is seen as a form of training in which the participant attempts to shape himself or herself as a person. Exploring the spirit of a warrior is seen as important as learning the techniques of fighting, and this is seen as being achieved through strenuous practice.
