The Nagano “Snow Monkeys”
These monkeys live in the Jigokudani (Hell Valley) Monkey Park located in the mountains of Nagano and are famous for soaking in onsen (hot springs). They are very used to being around humans and are not startled by visitors. Guests are required to walk to the park on snow-covered paths for about 30 minutes, but the trek to view these lovely monkeys is worth it.

Jigokudani Yaen-koen is very popular among visitors from abroad. After reaching the Kanbayashi parking area, guests must walk along a snow-covered path for about 30 minutes. Once within the park, you can view monkeys descend from the steep cliffs and sit near, or even in, the warm hot springs.
This resort features ryokan (Japanese-style hotels) and souvenir shops lined along narrow streets. It's also a great place for a footbath.
Obuse is an artistic town of galleries, museums, sake breweries and craft shops.
The famous painter Katsushika Hokusai spent his senior years here.
* Sightseeing in Obuse may be skipped over due to a weather or a traffic condition.
