Secure and Clean
The public safety and hygiene are the most anxiety things at your destination, but it’s nothing to worry about that in Japan. Staying in Japan safety is great attractiveness.
Public safety
Some Japanese often put their luggage on the chair to keep the seat while they leave there. In this case, almost nobody steals or moves it. That might be only seen in Japan because of the safety society (but it’s never recommended, of course).
Also, you never have your pocket picked or see street children. No staff in a gift shop, restaurant or somewhere like that overcharges you. The crime in the transport is hardly happened. Vicious criminals or juvenile delinquencies have been decreasing every year. Japan is much more safety than other Asian countries though you have to take care of something like walking the road alone midnight and so on at the very least.
KOBAN
The system of KOBAN is so useful to keep the public safety in Japan. KOBAN is a small police box, and there are a lot of KOBAN where a couple of police officers are in a town. Lost property is often taken to the KOBAN, so it’s not surprising to return it, even a wallet or mobile phone. For other example, stolen bicycles are often returned to the owner because of police officers on diligent patrol.
KOBAN system is getting increasingly popular in Asia, Middle East, Africa and the Pacific island nations. For example, Singapore has introduced the system supported by Japan and is one of the most safety countries all over the world.
Cleanness
Japanese is very strict about cleanness. They have some habit that is to take a bath and wash cloths everyday, wash vegetable and tableware before using and so on, and these have continued for from olden times because of abundant water resources. Shower toilets that shifted to domestic production from USA to Japan about 30 years ago are general equipment in hotels, department stores, stations and airports and are common in houses.
Also, Japanese take care of bacteria. ”Antibacterial products” is a typical example. Those are something to be touched by an unspecified large number of people or be used in the place where bacteria reproduce easily, like stationary, kitchenware, socks, bedclothes, toothbrushes, magazines and so on. They are too many to list up and are very popular these days.
