Beautiful Landscape
There are wonderful landscapes all over Japan. Japan is abundantly blessed with nature, and the four seasons are clearly distinguished. You can’t overlook the fact that the nature has cultural and historical depth.
Mt. Fuji
Everybody imagines the Mt.Fuji as a symbolic landscape in Japan. It’s the highest (3,776m) and a beautiful truncated cone that is characteristic of a startovolcano. The looks is changed every season, time period or place. Mt.Fuji has been the object of worship from ancient times, and the goddess is called Konohanasakuya-hime in a myth. Also, it has been described in a lot of art works like poems, pictures or literatures, and the beauty has been known all over the world.
Climbing Mt.Fuji is very popular, so many people come it from all over the country during short summer.
Japanese named some mountains that look like Mt. Fuji after “~ Fuji” because of the expression of respect. The main mountains of thin kind are around 20. The fact says Mt.Fuji has been so popular from ages past.
World Heritages and three most scenic spots in Japan
There are beautiful landscapes in Japan as well as Mt.Fuji The Three Great Sights of Japan are Miyajima in Hiroshima, Ama-no-Hashidate in Kyoto and Matsushiam in Miyagi. Especially, Miyajima was placed on the World Heritage List, and it’s so popular with many visitors from overseas.
There is Itsukushima shrine in Miyajima. The shrine and red Torii (a kind of archway) is on the sea. It’s unique and fantastic.
Besides that, many temples and shrines in both Kyoto and Nara where are ancient cities was placed on the List as well. A lot of tourists from the interior and overseas come to the places especially in spring and autumn.
And also, Himeji castle (Hyogo) is recommended to visit. The excellent castle has kept the beauty since it was built, so you can find the height of building techniques level in Japan.
Japanese-style gardens
Japanese-style gardens are places in where the beauty of nature is reconstructed, and it is supposed that making them started over 1,500 years ago.
Generally, there is an artificial hill, pond, stream with bridge and seasonal trees, for example, cherry blossoms for spring, paulownias for summer, hagi that is Japanese bush clover for autumn, sasanqua that is unique camellia in Japan for winter and so on. It is used the technique called “shakkei”, that the surrounding landscape like a mountain is use to set off the beauty of the garden. Many lords built it, set a ship, loved the view every season and expressed that in a poem.
You can see a lot of those gardens in Kyoto and Nara. The three great gardens of Japan are, Kenrokuen (Ishikawa), Kairakuen (Ibaraki) and Kourakuen (Okayama).
