The number of inbound tourists for Japan increased dramatically by 160 percent to 8.4 million in 2007. Since 2003, when the Japanese government initiated the Visit Japan Campaign, a strategic program to promote inbound tourism. The mission of the program, whose catchphrase is “YOKOSO! JAPAN”, is to attract "10 million foreign tourists to Japan by the year 2010." JTB Corp. has been contributing to the development of tourism for Japan since its founding in 1912. In 2005, almost a century later, the international travel division of JTB was spun off as its own company, JTB Global Marketing & Travel (JTBGMT), to further this effort, and today JTBGMT continues its parent company’s tradition of know-how and hospitality gained from a hundred years of experience as a market leader.
