Informations of the Niigata Chuetsu Offshore Earthquake
Newspapers and TVs sensationally covered a powerful earthquake occurred in Niigata Prefecture on July 16, 2007. However, the quake-stricken are is very limited. Other prefectures such as Tokyo or Kyoto were not damaged at all. Niigata is in the Chubu district and is approximately 320Km from Tokyo. Please be assured that the major tour destinations are very safe. For your reference, we would like to inform you of the facts on this earthquake as well as actual tour operation.
(1) Facts from Niigata Prefecture and news papers
Damages from the earthquake was concentrated in Kashiwazaki City and its neighboring areas, while some accommodations in other areas including Senami, Tsukioka, Iwamuro, Yuzawa, Myoko and Sado are undamaged and in business as usual.
Guests from abroad have no problems in visiting the these places in Niigata Prefecture.
Radioactive material leaked from the nuclear power station due to the earthquake, but it was measured only 1/10,000,000, the exposure limit for human being for one year regulated by the government. So no evacuation order was issued by the government not only in the nuclear power area but also any places throughout Japan. No change in our daily lives, no electrical power and no water failures.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. has been collaborating with Tohoku and Kansai Electric Companies to strengthening the framework of safeness among them.
(2) Sunrise Tours
All Sunrise Tours are operated as schedule, without any change due to the earthquake.
